History - Extracts from our School Logbook

Crawforddyke Primary School first opened its doors to pupils on Monday 26th August 1957. 521 pupils enrolled, most of who had been transferred from the Primary Department of Carluke Higher Grade School.

Thirteen classes were formed and the head teacher was Mr Allan Wallace M.A. He noted in the school logbook at the end of the first week "classes have settled" and "work was proceeding in a most encouraging way."

Councillor William MacLachlan conducted the official opening of the school on Saturday 7th September 1957. "With its equipment, finish and beauty, it was simply breathtaking to the parents who saw through it and contrasted it in memory with the accommodation of their own school days."

The school remained under Mr Wallace's headship until June 1972 - the log book simply noting, "This is the last entry made by Mr Allan Wallace who retires as from the commencement of the next session."
